Black History Month: Celebrating History and Art
Black History Month is recognized and celebrated every February in the United States, as a means of preserving and sharing Black history, culture, and art. While it began as a week meant to emphasize the teaching of Black history in public schools in the United States, over time it grew in popularity and has since become a month of celebration in several countries around the world, the focus expanding to include enriching Black culture and looking toward the future. For Black History Month this year, DeviantArt is donating to four non-profit organizations that focus on art and education resources for Black communities. In this journal, we’ve included information so you can learn more about the organizations we’re donating to, as well as find resources to learn more about Black History Month.
